About FIU Embrace
Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) have different abilities than others, but these abilities are often not recognized or built upon. As a result, over 80% of these individuals are unemployed and live at home with parents.
FIU Embrace works to help individuals with IDD make the most of their abilities and lives:
- For some, this means participating in Embrace’s Day Program to engage in meaningful and productive activities with peers and get out of the house during the day.
- For others, it could mean enrolling in Embrace Education, where they: 1) develop social, daily living, and educational skills; 2) train to obtain and maintain a job; and 3) develop independent living skills by living in dorms with other FIU students.
- And yet for some others, this means obtaining a college degree.
